Our guitar, violin and viola students of Music Starz Studios took another active role this holiday season to partake in the spirit of Giving and Sharing our gifts of music with others for a very good and noble cause. Our music students volunteered their time to performing live Christmas music to collect money for orphans in the U.S. and around the world in collaboration with the Buckner International Orphan Care at www.buckner.org
Shoes For Orphan Souls - Buckner International teamed up with Grapevine Mills to host Music Starz Studios to raise money for this fundraising campaign to make a difference.
We collected a total of $6456.03. We are proud to announce that proceeds were donated directly to Buckner International - Shoes For Orphan Souls.

Our goal was $4,000. We are proud to announce that every dollar collected totaling $4311.50 were donated directly to Buckner International - Shoes For Orphan Souls.
Congratulations to Sarah Song for getting certified to compete in THREE STATE EVENTS and receiving LISD's Distinguished Soloist Award!
On April 16, 2011, Sarah (10th grade - Flower Mound High School) competed at the Lewisville Independent School District Solo and Ensemble Contest. Of the 600 entries, LISD awarded thirty-three distinguished soloists. Sarah was among the thirty-three chosen to receive this award.
On March 6, 2011 Sarah competed at the Texas Music Teachers Association (TMTA) Student Affiliate Instrumental Competition Tryouts (9-10 grade category) under the umbrella of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and is certified to compete at the TMTA STATE Convention from June 15 - 19, 2011 at the Arlington Convention Center.
On Feb. 19, 2011 Sarah competed at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and garnered a Division 1! Sarah is certified to compete at the Texas STATE Solo and Ensemble Contest during Memorial weekend 2011 in Austin, Texas.
On Feb. 12, 2011, Sarah sat for the STATE Theory Test and scored full marks (101%), which earned her a GOLD medal.
Sarah is also competing as a chamber music at the TMTA/STATE June Leondar Chamber Music Comptition from June 15 - 19, 2011 at the Arlington Convention Center. Sarah was the first prize winner of the 7 - 9 Grade Category of the June Leondar Chamber Music Competition in 2010.
Sarah played an integral role in raising $4311.50 for the charity campaign for orphans last Christmas. Sarah volunteered 26 hours. Sarah will be raising money again for orphans this Christmas 2011.
Sarah performs for the senior living center in Flower Mound every Saturday.
Sarah also ranks top ten of her class of 850 in Flower Mound High School.
Congratulations to Alex Williams!
On April 10, 2010 the Marcus High School Orchestra traveled to San Francisco to participate at the Heritage Music Festival in conjuction with its annual Orchestra Spring Trip. The festival took place at Foothill Jr. College in Los Altos Hills.
At the festival, Alex was the only violinist to be chosen among nearly eight hundred of instrumentalists to receive its highly prestigious "Maestro Award" for his exceptional leadership qualities and musicianship. Alex snagged the top individual award at the festival.
2006-2007 All-State High School Orchestras
Congratulations to Kristin Lin on her acceptance into All-State High School Orchestras!
On Oct. 28, 2006, 400 violinists were selected from 25 regions across the state of Texas to record their All-State excerpts. These 400 violinists are the highest-ranking violinists from their respective 25 regions. From these 400 tapes, only 100 violinists are chosen to participate in the All-State High School Orchestras that will be featured at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in February 2007.
Kristin ranked 79th among 400 violinists, and was accepted.

Symphonic Orchestra
The Symphonic Orchestra was open to all high-school students from 9th through 12th grades. More than 100 violinists from Region 24 auditioned for the Symphonic Orchestra. All participants were ranked, and the top 40 violinists were accepted, of which 1 is our violin student.

2011 Lewisville ISD Soloists Award
On April 16, 2011, thirty-three students were awarded "Distinguished Soloist Award," nine students were awarded "Outstanding Soloist Award" and eight ensembles were awarded "Outstanding Ensemble Award" at the LISD Solo and Ensemble Contest.

Grades 7 – 9 Category
Three chamber music groups competed in this category, which included members of the 9 Quintet. A winner was awarded. The 1st prize plus $100 cash prize was awarded to the members of 9 Quintet. Members of the 9 Quintet are Sarah Song, Maya Rao, K M, S Z and N V. Sarah and Maya are our violin students.
Grades 10 – 12 Category
Five chamber music groups competed in this category, which included members of the LF Strings and Williams Duo. Members of LF Strings are Adrienne Phang and Christian Choi. Members of Williams Duo are Zack and Alex Williams. A winner was awarded. The 1st prize plus $100 cash prize was awarded to the members of Williams Duo. Alex and Zack are our violin students.
Student Affiliate Instrumental Contest

Louis Tyson was among four contestants, who participated in this category. He was placed 4th , and was an Honorable Mention.
Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra 2010
Congratulations to Christian Choi on getting accepted into The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra - Philharmonic. Christian is an 11th-grader at the Texas Academy of Math and Sciences at the University of North Texas. Christian has only been playing the violin for 5.5 years.

Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra 2008
Hundreds of orchestra students audition for entry into GDYO every year. Auditions for acceptance were held on April 12, 16, 19, 26 and May 3, 2008. GDYO accepts only the best orchestra students from the North Texas and the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex areas. Mrs. Karen entered three students this year.

Kristin Lin (violin) was accepted into the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra in 2004. In Summer 2007, Kristin represents Dallas and the United States in the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Tour to China and Japan. Kristin has been studying with Karen since 2003.
Dallas Asian-American Youth Orchestra
In summer 2005, Colin Meinecke (violin/viola) toured with the Dallas Asian-American Youth Orchestra to China. Colin has been studying with Karen since 2001. Colin earned a Bachelor of Music degree in performance at The University of North Texas – College of Music.

Eleven students were awarded the judges’ “Outstanding Soloists Award” on April 17, 2010 at the LISD Solo and Ensemble Contest. Of the eleven recipients, the judges awarded four middle school students and seven high school students from LISD. One of our violin students was awarded LISD’s “Outstanding Soloist Award.” She is K M. Congratulations to K M! On April 17, 2010, K M received the “Outstanding Soloist Award” from her judge in Room 209. K is a 9th-grader at Lewisville High School.

2010 Carrollton Music Teachers Association Instrumental Orchestral Festival & Student Affiliate Instrumental Competition
On Feb. 7, 2010, the following students competed at the CMTA Instrumental Orchestral Festival and Student Affiliate Instrumental Competition and were very successful.

2009 Lewisville ISD Outstanding Soloist Award
Ten students were awarded the judges’ "Outstanding Soloist Award" on April 19 at the LISD Solo and Ensemble Contest. Of the ten recipients, the judges awarded three middle school students and seven high school students from LISD. One of our violin students was awarded LISD’s “Outstanding Soloist Award.” She is S Z. Congratulations to S Z! On April 18, 2009, LISD designated three (middle school) outstanding soloists. S received “Outstanding Soloist Award” from her judge. S is an 8th -grader at Shadow Ridge Middle School.

Seventeen students were awarded the judges’ outstanding soloists awards on April 19 at the LISD Solo and Ensemble Contest. Of the seventeen recipients, the judges awarded nine middle school students and eight high school students from LISD. Two of our violin students were awarded LISD’s “Most Outstanding Soloist Award.” They are Sarah Kim and Rachel Lush.

Three of our students received the LISD’s “Outstanding Soloist Award” on April 14 at the LISD Solo and Ensemble Contest. They are Christian Choi, M K and H W.

On April 14, 2007 Lewisville ISD hosted the LISD Solo and Ensemble Contest, in which a judge from each room was requested to submit in the best performer from that room to receive “Outstanding Soloist Award.” LISD designated 8 outstanding soloists for that day. Christian received “Outstanding Soloist Award” from his judge, Sue Ewing from Plano ISD. Christian is an 8th -grader at Durham Middle School. Christian also received “Outstanding Soloist Award” in 2005 when he was a 6th-grader.

Jenny Lee (violin) – Division 1: Superior Rating. Jenny was the only one of the six candidates from Lewisville High School North to garner a Division 1: Superior Rating at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest (TSSEC)! TSSEC recorded 12,000 performances for 2006.
